Horoscopes empower people to find meaning in the tedious repetition of life. Self-help guides ask people to be proactive. Dating columns encourage people to seize every romantic opportunity. Reality television gives hope to that one person who believes they deserve alone time with a millionaire or that charming average Joe. My Date Blew Me Off asks, “What happens when that hope decides to break its promise or feels like staying home instead?” This project illustrates how romance meets reality, how unrequited love meets an imaginary friend, and in doing so, illuminates the nuances of loneliness. |
